Section Aim
To provide a focus for discussion and debate relating to the development and delivery of services in primary oral health care. This includes the clinical and public health functions of primary care services.
Objectives
- To maintain a body of people with expert knowledge of and experience in all aspects of service development and delivery, and to provided advice through BASCD council when required.
- To foster and develop links with other relevant bodies and specialist societies e.g. BSDH, BSPD, OHPRG, PCD groups, the Advisory Committee for Community Dentistry and other sections and groups in BASCD.
- To promote the study of primary oral health care and oral health promotion.
- To promote and support the education and training needs of practitioners in primary oral health care.
- To develop quality standards in the practice and research of primary oral health care.
- To promote and support the development of the specialty of Special Care Dentistry.

The section is currently involved with compiling a directory of local and national guidelines for salaried primary dental services. This will be available on this website in the near future. For further details please contact the section secretary.
The Chairman of the section represents BASCD on the Advisory Committee for Community Dentistry, where she is currently Chairperson.
